Abstract
Natural phosphatidylserine has antithromboplastic activity. This activity increases on storage, reaches a maximum, and then decreases. Evidence is presented which suggests that the change of the antithromboplastic activity is due to the autoxidation of phosphatidylserine. The increased activity can be further enhanced and stabilized by catalytic hydrogenation and decomposition of the residual peroxides of the autoxidized phosphatidylserine. A chemical oxidation of phosphatidylserine can be used instead of autoxidation.
