ALIPHATIC CHEMISTRY OF FLUORENE: PART VI. 3,4-BENZOFLUORENE-9-SPIRO-CYCLOHEXANE

Abstract

The quinoxaline (VI) has been prepared from 3,4-benzofluorene, establishing the structure of the cyclization product of I as 3,4-benzo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrofluorene-9-spiro-cyclohexane. 3,4-Benzo-9,9-dimethylfluorene has been prepared and oxidized to the quinone (VIII) which formed the quinoxaline (IX), structurally related to VI.1,2:7,8-Dibenzo-9-methylfluorene has been synthesized from 1,2:7,8-dibenzofluorenone which, contrary to an earlier report (13), forms an oxime.
