Abstract
The depolarized Raman spectrum of compressed HCl at 60 and 55 °C was measured at a number of densities. Several theoretical calculations and an analysis of the spectra support the view that the spectrum at densities above 80 amagat is dominated by a collision induced component. The calculations also show that the neglect of a collision induced contribution to the depolarized Raman spectrum of CO, N2, and CO2 is justified.
