Half-Life of the 194Ir Decay

Abstract

The half-life of the 194Ir decay has been measured by following the decay of several of the prominent 194Pt γ rays as observed in a series of 254 successive 1 h Ge(Li) γ-ray spectra. The half-life is found to be 19.15 ± 0.03 h, a result in marked disagreement with the most accurately quoted value appearing in the literature. The γ spectra exhibit 45 γ rays which can be identified with transitions in 194Pt.
