Abstract
The transmission of the (0–0) band of the infrared atmospheric system of oxygen through the atmosphere has been calculated using an analytic approximation to the Voigt line profile. The zenith transmission at the ground, for an emission temperature of 200 °K, is calculated to be 6.5% in agreement with the value determined from ground-based observations of the twilight airglow at 1.27 μ. These calculations also indicate that the atmospheric transmission is dependent on the emission temperature which may vary with season and time of day.
