Abstract
Ultrasonic absorption measurements have been carried out on the system 2-isobutoxyethanol–water as a function of composition, temperature, and frequency. The composition and frequency dependence of the absorption show the same general type of behavior as for previously investigated critical binary liquid systems and for alcohol–water systems. The temperature dependence shows a behavior opposite to that for the other systems at the frequency where it was studied in detail. At the lowest experimentally available frequency, however, the temperature dependence is somewhat similar to that in other critical binary liquid systems. Ultrasonic absorption measurements are also reported for water at small temperature intervals. No anomalous behavior in the temperature range 0 to 30 °C is observed.
