Abstract
The stoichiometry and kinetics of the reaction[Formula: see text]have been determined at 25 °C in 3.0 – 5.8 M HClO4 and compare well with the results obtained in aqueous H2SO4. A mechanism involving a semi-ideal treatment of the dehydration equilibrium[Formula: see text]is consistent with the kinetic data in both media.
