Abstract
The results of a pilot study aimed at automatic identification of cultivars based on the grain are presented. Using fluorescence spectrography, a band from 3000 Å to 5300 Å was found useful for discriminating six Canadian oat cultivars. It is stipulated that fluorescence spectrography reflects part of the assumed chemical pattern distinguishability between cultivars. The method is objective, reliable, and rapid. Discrimination was achieved by means of canonical analysis at this stage.
