Abstract
It has been verified that H atoms are formed when formaldehyde vapor at 300 °C is illuminated by the 3 655 Å group of the mercury arc. Isolation of the group of lines was achieved by a combination of glass and solution filters. This observation gives further support to the "high" value of D(H—CO).It was found that D2CO also is predissociated following absorption at this wavelength. This observation is not in agreement with predictions based on purely spectroscopic studies of these molecules.
