Abstract

The major aglycone from the saponins of Asterias forbesi has been identified as 3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-pregn-9(11)-en-20-one (1). A simplified procedure for extracting saponins from starfish is reported which reduces the required working time from 7–14 to 1–3 days.
