Preparation and properties of the optical antipodes of β-methoxyvaline and β-hydroxyvaline

Abstract

DL-Methoxyvaline was resolved by the selective precipitation of the L-form as d-10-camphorsulfonate in the form of a monomethanolate. Hydrolysis of the β-methoxyvalines with hydrobromic acid gave the two optical isomers of β-hydroxyvaline of which only the L-form is a competitive antagonist of valine for Lactobacillus arabinosus 17-5.
