Abstract
Sympatric diploid and tetraploid cocksfoots (Dactylis glomerata L.) were analyzed from a biochemical and phytochemical point of view: the distribution of 15 isozymes and 40 phenolic compounds have been studied on about 40 individual plants. Results indicate that the two cytotypes have developed different isozymic and phenolic patterns; nevertheless, several biochemical markers bore witness to affinity between both ploidy levels and gave support to the hypothesis of an autopolyploidy process.
