Abstract
An approximate theory has been developed for the calculation of particle confinement times in 'electromagnetic traps' (electrostatically plugged, minimum B plasma confinement devices). Thermalization losses and cross field diffusion losses are taken into account. Results are presented for characteristic machines, corresponding roughly to present experiments, the next generation of electromagnetic traps, and a fusion reactor.
