Abstract
No evidence has been found for a stable intermediate during the reaction of 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene with diethyl malonate in the presence of triethylamine as has been reported in the literature. The spectral and chemical properties attributed by earlier work to the intermediate have been assigned to the final products of the reaction.
