Abstract
The effects of anharmonicity on the absorption and emission spectra of imperfections in non-metals are examined. The study is based on an approximately derived line-shape function that is appropriate to the systems, regardless of the coupling strength between the imperfection and lattice vibrations. It is shown that, primarily because of the phonon life-time effects, anharmonicity broadens the so-called zero-phonon line in a weakly coupled impurity–lattice system.
