Abstract
The (n,n′γ) reaction has been studied for the nuclides 11B, 14N, 19F, 23Na, 27Al, 28Si, and 40Ca through the use of fission-spectrum neutrons. The gamma-ray spectra obtained using a Ge(Li)–NaI(Tl) split-annulus spectrometer revealed that levels up to 9 MeV are populated. Analysis of the gamma-ray spectra permitted the derivation of decay schemes and, from the branching, the primary population of each level observed. Assuming an exponential form for the reactor fission-spectrum neutrons, a model based upon the Hauser–Feshbach formalism was employed to calculate the relative population expected for each level using previously reported Jπ values. The validity of the model and the reliability of obtaining spin information is examined.
