Abstract

Observational results indicate that the lateral movement of the sliding layer in landslides is usually not uniform, but approximately linear. In this paper, a subgrade reaction solution for the response of flexible piles in landslides is developed where the influence of the laterally linear movement of the sliding layer on the response of flexible piles in landslides is considered. The study of case histories indicates that the calculated and measured responses of flexible piles in landslides compare well with each other. Dimensionless design charts are proposed based on the new subgrade reaction solution.Key words: piles, slope stabilization, landslides, soil–pile interaction, subgrade reaction solution.
