Abstract
The compound (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride-1,2−14C (CCC) is weakly metabolized by winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L., var. Dover), 0.3% of the intital radioactivity being found in the choline moiety of phosphatidyl choline. Traces of radioactivity are also present in choline and in other unidentified compounds soluble in ethanol.CCC is more rapidly absorbed by the roots than by the leaves of winter barley and preferentially accumulates in the meristematic tissues.
