Abstract
2-O-α-D-Glucopyranosyl-D-erythrose condensed with nitromethane in the presence of sodium methoxide to yield a mixture of 1-deoxy-3-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-1-nitro-D-ribitol and 1-deoxy-3-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-1-nitro-D-arabinitol which were converted via the Nef reaction to 3-O-α-D-gluco-pyranosyl-D-ribose and 3-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl-D-arabinose.
