Abstract
Young fruit bodies of Cyathus olla Pers. (Nidulariaceae) were collected, fixed, and squashed using a special spreading technique. Meiosis in a young developing basidium is found to be similar to that of higher organisms. Chromosomes in the expanded state are relatively large. The chromosome number is larger than has been reported for most members of the Basidiomycetes.
