Abstract
Sulfonated polyphthalamide microcapsules were prepared by making use of the interfacial polycondensation reaction between p-phthaloyl dichloride and a mixture of diethylenediamine and 4,4′-diaminostilbene-2,2′-disulfonic acid. These microcapsules were found to be fluorescent as well as negatively charged owing to the presence of sulfonated stilbene skeletons chemically bound in the membranes. The electrophoretic mobility measurements in the presence of inorganic electrolytes revealed a strong resemblance between the microcapsules and hydrophobic colloid particles.
