Abstract
The energy level of 12C at 18.36 MeV is investigated with the reaction 11B(p, α)2α. Both suggested values, 2+ and 3−, for its spin and parity are used to compute the cross section in the laboratory σL, which corresponds to the detection of two alphas of the final state. Comparison of σL with the experimental data confirms that 3− is the most probable value. A tentative evaluation of the percentage of different outgoing channels is given in order to complete the analysis.
