Abstract
The phage neutralization technique has been exploited for the detection of rabbit antibodies against the 2,4-dinitrophenyl residue. The sodium salt of dinitrobenzene sulfonate was allowed to react with bacteriophage T2 and the surviving hapten-bacteriophage conjugates (HBC) were found to be inactivated by the anti-hapten antiserum. Amounts of antibody as low as 2 × 10−3 μg were detected by this technique. The specificity of the reaction was demonstrated by the inhibition with structurally related haptens of the neutralization of HBC by anti-hapten antibody.
