Abstract
A general solution is obtained for the diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave incident upon n parallel, unequal slits in a perfectly conducting plane. The media on either side of the plane may have different permittivities and permeabilities. The cases of both E and H polarization are considered. The solution is obtained in the form of a power series in (wave number × maximum dimension of the slit region) and is therefore valid only when this dimension is small. Expressions are found for the transmission coefficient and some numerical results are given for some particular values of the parameters involved.
