Abstract
When admitting gas or isotope mixtures under molecular flow conditions into a mass spectrometer for static analysis, fractionation and back diffusion occur unless equilibrium is reached. To account for this, a theoretical 'orifice correction factor' has been developed. Experimental evidence of its validity, especially in respect to K-Ar dating, is given.
