Spectrofluorometric studies. VI. Photochemistry of toluene vapor excited in the 2480–2660 Å region

Abstract

The fluorescent yields and triplet yields of toluene vapor as a function of exciting wavelengths and pressure have been determined. The sensitized emission of biacetyl technique was used to determine triplet yields. The sums of fluorescent yield and triplet yield at 2660, 2600, and 2540 Å are near unity. The data reported here confirm recently published results on toluene wherein the cis–trans isomerization of olefins technique was used as a triplet probe.
