Abstract
Antisera against the ascites fluid, cytoplasmic fluid, insoluble cell fraction, and sonic extract of the Ehrlich ascites tumor were prepared in rabbits. The antiserum against the ascites fluid produced a number of precipitation lines in the immunodiffusion test with the ascites fluid, but exerted no cytotoxic effect on viable tumor cells in the Warburg manometer test. The antiserum against the insoluble cell fraction did not produce precipitation lines in the immunodiffusion test, yet it was very cytotoxic to the tumor cells. Among these four ascites tumor preparations, the insoluble cell fraction displayed the best immunoprotective effect, and the cytoplasmic fluid appeared to suppress the hemagglutinin production against sheep erythrocytes in rabbits. All four ascites tumor preparations shared some antigenicity with the mouse erythrocyte as demonstrated by the hemagglutination test.
