Abstract
The synthesis and assignment of the geometry of a number of previously unknown methyl-substituted 1,3,5-heptatriens are described. A table of the ultraviolet spectral maxima of these and other trienes is included. Anomalies in the ultraviolet spectral curves of certain trienes are attributed to steric interactions affecting the coplanarity of the chromophore system.
