Abstract
The degree of protection conferred by the injection of different cellular preparations against the subsequent challenge with cells transformed by SV40 was studied in the hamster. Irradiated tumor cells have afforded a high degree of protection, while a smaller degree of protection was induced by antigenically modified tumor cells or by tumor cells desintegrated by freezing and thawing. An enhancement phenomenon was observed when irradiated embryonic cells were used for immunization: that would indicate that an antigenic relationship exists between embryonic hamster cells and adult hamster cells transformed by SV40.
