Abstract
A new method for the calculation of level shifts of autoionizing states of atoms is developed. It is suggested that this method is simpler and yet more accurate and mathematically more rigorous than other methods previously used for such calculations. The claim is substantiated by both mathematical arguments and by actual application of the method to the 2s2p1,3P autoionizing states of two-electron atoms.
