Developments in the study of smooth muscle research: reflections on 42 years

Abstract

This review of smooth muscle research in my laboratory covers over 40 years. It focuses on research on the control of myometrium, blood vessels, gastrointestinal muscle, and airway muscle and highlights the major findings and those who made them. My goal is to show how science can be rewarding both in terms of findings and in terms of the people who make them.Key words: myometrium, gastrointestinal motility, airway hyperresponsiveness, neuropeptides, neural control.
