Abstract
A new canonical approach is proposed to obtain an auxiliary Hamiltonian, replacing Lipkin's, used in the derivation of the variable coefficient formula (VCF) for calculating collective inertiae in variational frameworks such as Hartree–Fock in nuclear physics. The method solves the center of mass exactly without any contributions from the fluctuations of the intrinsic state as opposed to the VCF which cannot guarantee this property.
