Abstract
Some salient features of the life cycle of A. communis sensu Racovitza were established from 4488 specimens collected in Lake St-Louis: reproduction peak in February; growth of young more rapid in fall and winter than in summer; gravid females smaller in summer than in winter and dying after discharge of young. These features not only are adaptations to climatic conditions but also would justify creation of a new species different from A. communis Say (1818).
