Abstract
A synthetic medium for Clostridium roseum was devised. This medium consisting of 18 amino acids, three vitamins, glucose, salts, and a buffer system supports the germination, postgerminative development, and growth of spores of this organism. Although the morphological and cultural characteristics of the cells are similar to those in Tris test medium, the medium fails to support the formation of normal resistant spores. As in the case of some other Clostridia, proteinaceous material in the form of Trypticase and thiamine are required for the complete phenotypic expression of the spore genome.
