Autoionized Series in the Arc Spectrum of Arsenic

Abstract

The absorption spectrum of arsenic vapor produced by the flash discharge of AsF3 vapor has been photographed in the vacuum ultraviolet region down to 1216 Å by means of a 10 m vacuum spectrograph. Four new series corresponding to three limits of 4s24p2(3P)ns have been extended to include [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text]. The ionization potential for As I is revised and the values for the second and third limits are calculated from the new series. Autoionization of the series above the first limit and many examples of perturbations are outlined. Measured wavelength and relative intensities for 198 new lines are added to the previous analysis.
