Abstract
Scattering by radially inhomogeneous isotropic cylinders was investigated experimentally in the case of parallel polarization. The cylinders used were constructed of a type of artificial dielectric which made the simulation of a smooth permittivity variation possible. The measurements were carried out in a parallel-plate region for both plane- and cylindrical-wave incidence. The scattered-field coefficients were computed from measured field values by applying a Fourier least-squares fit. The scattered field and back-scattering cross-section computed using these coefficients were compared with those expected from theory.
