Abstract
Sodium borohydride can be sulfurated to give NaBH2S3. The sulfurated hydride, when treated with a mercaptan, gives an orthothioborate: (RS)3B. The orthoborates react with aldehydes and ketones to give the corresponding thioacetals with quantitative yields, in neutral medium.
