Abstract
Two selected birch (Betulapendula) clones, isolated invitro, were studied for their responses to salt and mycorrhization. After 60 days of culture, when inoculated with Paxillusinvolutus, clone 4 showed the most growth stimulation, 120%, against 55% for clone 5. Clone 4 is also more tolerant to NaCl than clone 5, their respective decreases in biomass being 10 and 40% in medium containing 50 mM NaCl. Salt and mycorrhizal responses were linked to the osmotic and nutritional status of vitroplants. Translocation of ions towards the shoots thus appears to be involved in these cross-tolerances.
