Abstract
The ability of the green alga Spongiochloris typica to resist desiccation and heat (100 °C for 1 h) was investigated. Desiccation resistance and heat resistance, which were both ephemeral, appeared to be two separate phenomena. A dilution of the nutrients of the medium seemed to favor high desiccation resistance whereas heat resistance was favored by higher concentrations of nutrients. Also, they reached their resistance maxima at different times during the 8-week incubation period. These two phenomena apparently were not related to an accumulation of lipids or carotenoids, nor to the decline of chlorophyll.
