Termolecular Recombination Rate Constant and Triple Collision Cross-section

Abstract

The concept of triple collisions cross-section in termolecular recombination reaction was investigated. The hard-sphere model was tested against experimental data, and it was found to predict, in disagreement with experiments, a positive temperature dependence for the recombination rate constants. Average cross-sections were obtained from experimental rate data. Two empirical functions widely used for summarizing experimental rate data were inverted through an inverse Laplace transform to give the triple collision cross-section.
