Abstract
Gold has been bombarded with protons of energies from 8 to 60 Mev to study excitation functions and isomer yield ratios for the formation of the isomeric pairs Hg197m,g, Hg195m,g, and Au196m,g. For Hg197m,g and Hg195m,g, the ratio of the yield of the metastable state to that of the ground state, σm/σg, was found to increase with increasing proton bombarding energy up to 20 and 35 Mev respectively, whilst that for Au196m,g showed a maximum at about 40 Mev.
