Abstract
The thermal decomposition of hydrazoic acid in the presence of methane, ethane, and propane investigated over the temperature range 285–470 °C gave only N2, NH3, and polymer as products. Limited experiments were done with ethene as a substrate, and products were formed which correspond to reactions of nitrogen containing radicals with C2H4. The pyrolysis of HN3 is not a good source of NH radicals due to heterogeneity and complex secondary reactions of radicals with HN3.
