Abstract
Transfer of dieldrin from environmental water into the vascular system of isolated perfused gills of rainbow trout was demonstrated. Transfer occurred only when plasma protein, or more probably plasma lipoprotein, was present in the perfusion fluid. Over the range of concentrations tested transfer was always down a concentration gradient. Larger quantities of dieldrin were absorbed on or bound in gills perfused with plasma than in those perfused with Ringer solution or a protein-free synthetic tissue culture medium (TC-199).
