Abstract
3β-Alkyl-5α-cholestan-2-ones (R = CH3, C2H5, and CH3CH2CH2) were prepared by the direct alkylation of 5α-cholestan-2-one with alkyl iodide and potassium tert-butoxide in a reflux of tert-butyl alcohol – benzene. The bromination of these 3β-alkyl ketones gave 3α-bromo-3β-alkyl-5α-cholestan-2-one.
