Electroproduction of low energy π+ from 3He

Abstract

A simple model is used to calculate cross sections and angular distributions for the reactions 3He(e,π+)e′T and 3He(e,T)e′π+. In addition to strictly numerical computations a test of the forward peaking approximation is made. Comparison with existing data shows that the threshold operator for π+ production appears as a good approximation (for 3He) for pion energies up to about 30 MeV.
