Abstract
Previously published electron spin resonance data on the (SnTe)1−x(MnTe)x system indicates that the observed resonance is due to the manganese ions present in a doubly ionized S ground state with a g value of 2.00 ± 0.02. Data are presented to show that the line width is controlled above the ferromagnetic ordering temperature by the manganese ion interaction with the conduction electrons and the line area is controlled by the manganese ion magnetization. Below the ordering temperature all of the line width, line area, and central resonance field correlate with the experimentally determined magnetization. The temperature dependence of the line width and resonance field in the ferromagnetic regime is not explainable by demagnetization effects alone but require some additional relaxation channel to open below the ordering temperature.
