Abstract
The reaction of tetramethyltetrazene with Me3Al:NMe3, Et3Al, and H3Al:NMe3 has led to a new method for the preparation of (Me2Al—NMe2)2, (Et2Al—NMe2)2, and H2Al—NMe2, respectively. The reaction of tetramethyltetrazene with Me3Al has produced Al(NMe2)3, MeAl(NMe2)2, and Me2Al—NMe2, and with Et3Al:NMe3 has produced Et3Al:Me2NN=NNMe2, Et2Al—NMe2, and the polymer (—AlEtNEt—)n. In all but one case, the complexes are formed by the interaction of a dimethylamine radical, which results from the cleavage of Me2NN=NNMe2, with the aluminum moiety and the subsequent elimination of an alkane or hydrogen.
