Abstract
The haemoproteids of the bee-eater family, Meropidae, are reviewed and the hosts and geographic distributions are summarized. Haemoproteus manwelli sp.nov. is described from Merops orientalis from India and Haemoproteus lairdi is described from Melittophagus variegatus from Uganda; the latter parasite occurs in host cells lacking a nucleus. Haemoproteus meropis Tartakovskii, 1913 is declared a nomen nudum and Haemoproteus meropis (Zargar, 1945) emend. Bennett, 1978 is redescribed.
