Abstract
Chemically and physically induced inflammations in rats and guinea pigs were treated with a combination of chymotrypsin and prednisolone. The rate and degree of healing, which includes the elimination of hemorrhagic and edematous conditions, were compared with those in untreated controls as well as in those animals that received prednisolone or chymotrypsin alone. The combination of enzyme and steroid acted synergistically to promote healing and alleviate the inflammatory condition. The increased anti-inflammatory activity of the combination was independent of both the agents or methods used for wound induction and the animal species in which the lesions were produced.
