Abstract
We point out that for certain transition probabilities in neutral atoms, the nonorthonormality between the basis sets of initial and final wave functions should be accounted for explicitly. However, for most transition probabilities in the ions and many in the neutrals, it appears that the explicit consideration of nonorthonormality is not necessary, a fact which reduces the magnitude of many body calculations of these quantities considerably.
